Up Side Down
April 25-26, 2020
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13)
The number one image of God that Jesus paints for us again and again is that God is a Father.
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”—A.W. Tozer
Heaven is not about spending eternity in a glorious place some day; Heaven is about enjoying a glorious person every day!
God is holy.
For thus says the high and exalted One
Who lives forever, whose name is Holy,
“I dwell on a high and holy place,
And also with the contrite and lowly of spirit
In order to revive the spirit of the lowly
And to revive the heart of the contrite.” (Isaiah 57:15)
Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven has come near. (Matthew 4:17)
Many young American adults have a faith characterized by “moralistic, therapeutic deism.” —Tim Keller
We hallow the name of the Father.
Hallow is a verb that means to make holy or consider holy.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33)
Prayer and praise go together.
“There is an intimate link between God and his name. According to Scripture, this link is not accidental or arbitrary but forged by God himself. We do not name God; he names himself…Summed up in his name, therefore, is his honor, his fame, his excellencies, his entire revelation, his very being.” –Herman Bavinck
Therefore say to the house of Israel, “Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name.” (Ezekiel 36:22)
Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8:1)
Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. (Psalm 72:19)
Let them praise your great and awesome name… (Psalm 99:3)
O magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together. (Psalm 34:3)
You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9)
Help us, God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake. (Psalm 79:9)
He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. (Psalm 23:3)
May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God. (Psalm 20:5)
And I will hope in your name, for your name is good. (Psalm 52:9)
…hallowed be your name.
The Name of Jesus!
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:13)
