Shelly Smelski

Community Care Director

Shelly is the Community Care Director on our Adult Discipleship Team. “As a Community Care Director for Journey Christian Church, I’m responsible for our Support Group Ministries. I have the privilege of walking alongside those that are hurting and need some hope and encouragement through life’s most difficult circumstances.”

“I was born in Scranton PA. I spent several of my younger years in Bolder Colorado before moving to Florida. I joined Journey Christian Church on August 2, 2021. I have spent much of my career in technology sales.”

When asked what she loves about Journey, Shelly says, “Having an opportunity to serve God and love people! I’m grateful to work for a church leadership team that cares so deeply about our members and the communities we serve. We continue to work together to offer Support Group Ministries that positively impact lives of those that are willing to face their pain head on. We are working on a ‘new’ ministry of ‘Life Coaches’ to offer an even greater service to those in need.”

“I’m married to an amazing man named Steve. We were wed in 1997. I have one son, named Jordan. He lives in heaven with our Heavenly Father and Savor Jesus Christ. He is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. We started the Jordan Smelski Foundation for Amoeba Awareness in 2014, after Jordan’s death. He was 11 years young.”
Some fun facts about Shelly are, “My favorite bible verse is Psalm 23. The best advice I have ever been given came from my 11-year-old son Jordan. ‘When life gives you lemons, you squeeze them back into life’s eyes,’ This means never give up! One of my favorite quotes comes from Erma Bombeck. ‘When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say; I used everything you gave me.'”
