Soul Care

The Soil of Your Soul

September 20, 2020

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mark 8:36-37 KJV)

Your soul is what integrates your will, your mind, your body, and your relationships into a single, entire being.

Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me. (Psalm 103:1 KJV)

The LORD God formed a man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7)

The sower is a constant.

The seed is a constant.

The soil is the variable.

-The Hardened Soul

-The Shallow Soul

Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God. (Psalm 42:5, 11; 43:5 NKJV)

Return to your rest, O my soul, for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. (Psalm 116:7 NKJV)

Praise the LORD, O my soul! While I live, I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. (Psalm 146: 1-2 NKJV)

O my soul, my soul! I am pained in my very heart! My heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war. (Jeremiah 4:19 NKJV)

I will speak out…in the bitterness of my soul. (Job 7:11 NIV)

I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul will not reject you. I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be my people. (Leviticus 26:11-12)

Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased. (Matthew 12:18 ESV)

-The Cluttered Soul

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. (1 Timothy 6:17-19)

-The Flourishing Soul

Flourishing is to receive life from outside yourself, creating vitality within yourself and producing blessing beyond yourself.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)

“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. (John 7:37-39)

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:38 KJV)

A river watering the garden flowed from Eden. (Genesis 2:10)

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. (Psalm 46:4)

Like trees planted by rivers of water, which yield their fruit in season, and whose leaves do not wither; they prosper in all they do. (Psalm 1:3)

Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. (Revelation 22:1-2)

Do not quench the Spirit. (1 Thessalonians 5:19)

“walking in the Spirit,” “keeping in step with the Spirit,” or “sowing to the Spirit”

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. (Galatians 5:25-26)
