Relationships That Define Us
Children
May 6/7, 2017

There are three things that have had a profound impact on us as adults:
1) Our relationships
2) The choices we have made
3) Our experiences

The trend of our culture is to have kids that are experience rich and relationally poor.

“What can I do in light of where my kids are to enhance my relationship with them?”

First principle:
When it matters most, the quality of your relationship with your kids will determine the weight of your influence.
– We have a size and position advantage.
– Question: When do our kids need our influence the most?
Answer: When they are making the decisions that are going to matter the most!

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4)

Ultimately and eventually it will be the health of our relationship that determines the weight of our influence.

Being right is not the same as having influence.

You can be right and you can be irrelevant at the same time.

Second principle:
Your relationship with your children is what sets them up for future relationships.

Acceptance and time is what it takes to have a great relationship with your child.
