Awaken…How to Revive Your Spiritual Life

Confess Known Sin

July 11, 2021

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:8-9)

Adam answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” And God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” (Genesis 3:10-13)

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9)

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate, I do. (Romans 7:15)

1) Stop hiding.

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”—Chuck Swindoll

“It’s what you want to conceal the most that you need to reveal the most so you can heal the most.” —Pastor Kevin Queen

Come near to God and God will come near to you. (James 4:8)

2) Accept guilt and reject shame.

“The difference between shame and guilt is the difference between “I am bad” and “I did something bad.”—Dr. Brene Brown

“If Adam & Eve would have cried out instead of hiding out, things would be a lot different.”—Dr. Chip Todd

R-Recognize it.

A-Admit it.

L-Learn from it.

F-Forget it.

As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:12) 3) Understand that God knows you the best and loves you the most.

But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. (Luke 15:20)

4) Extend grace to those who have hurt you.

Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16)
