The Real Hunger Games
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting for forty days and nights, he was hungry. (Matthew 4:1-2 NIV)
1) What is Righteousness?
– Being right with God Legally
And may be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. (Philippians 3:9 NIV)
– Being right with God Morally.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared for us in advance to do. (Ephesians 2:10 NIV)
2) How does God make me righteous?
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood to be received by faith. (Romans 3:23-25 NIV)
God made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV)
3) Four ways to satisfy my hunger and thirst for God
– Put Your Relationship with God First
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33 NIV)
– Eliminate all Junk Food
Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money. Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it’s all free. Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. (Isaiah 55:1-2 NLT)
– Choose Your Friends Carefully
So join the company of good men and women, and stay on the paths of the righteous. (Proverbs 2:20 MESS/NLT)
– Read God’s Word Daily
All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16 NIV)
