National Day of Prayer Observance
Today is designated as the National Day of Prayer in the USA. Today, for the 11th year in a row, the Apopka Christian Ministerial Alliance hosted the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at the Apopka Community Center. Today’s gathering was one of the largest since it started, with over 50 tables surrounded by city, business, educational, community and ministry leaders. I’m always grateful to look across the room and see so many folks from Journey represented–people who own or lead businesses, people who serve in first responder units, people who are city employees or who work in the local school systems. That’s where the Journey “salt” is most impactful, when we are out of the shaker and tastefully enhancing and preserving our community.
John Rivers, the founder and CEO of the wildly popular 4Rivers BBQ and The Coop restaurants, was the keynote speaker. If you’ve never heard his story, you should. It is a great testimony to the power of prayer, passion, perseverance and purpose. I already liked 4Rivers BBQ a lot, but after hearing why and how it all came about, I like it even better and suddenly feel the need to have some brisket!
I urge you to spend some time today praying for our nation and our leaders on every level–from the White House to the State House to City Hall. God is stirring more and more people to come together and work together to build His Church. Even though there is a divisive spirit in our country right now, what unites us in God is greater than what can separate us in the world.
This year’s theme for the National Day of Prayer is “Hear Us…Forgive Us…Heal Us, O Lord.” If you said no other prayer than that one today, that would be enough. Amen.
Global Leadership Summit | August 10-11
Everybody wins when leaders get better. That is a fact. When the leadership tide rises, all the boats in the harbor rise with it. That vision has been the driving force behind the Global Leadership Summit sponsored by the Willow Creek Association for the past 25 years.
This year Journey is a private-host site for the GLS that will be held on Thursday and Friday, August 10-11.
Who should attend the Summit? Everybody who wants to get better at leadership.
Is this just a church/ministry seminar? Absolutely not. Many of the top leaders from business, public service, and education are part of the faculty as well as some of the most effective and influential churches in the country.
How will I benefit from the GLS? According to independent research that is based on repeat Summit attendee’s data collected over the last 20 years:
- 83% of attendees demonstrate improved teamwork, job satisfaction and productivity
- 61% of attendees say their organization is more effective because of clearer vision
- 87% feel a greater sense of significance and satisfaction in their personal and professional lives
- 81% cite concrete ways their supervisor has become a better leader because of the Summit
To register for the GLS at an exclusive and greatly discounted Journey private-view rate, click here, and follow the simple instructions.
Not only will you gain fresh, actionable leadership content from some of the world’s best leaders, you will do it with your Journey family, and we are always better when we are learning and growing together.
Relationships That Define Us – Children
This weekend in our Relationships That Define Us series, we will be talking about Children. Your child’s relationship with you as a parent will do more to set them up for success or failure than anything else that will come into their life. Conversely, the developing of your relationship with your children will set up parents for future happiness and fulfillment more than any other relationship.
This weekend, I will be joined by Next Gen Pastor Ryan Tucker, and together we will speak directly, practically and hopefully as we focus on this vital relationship that defines us.
Worship Song Set for the Upcoming Weekend:
- God is Able – (Hillsong)
- Oh How I Need You – (All Sons & Daughters)
- Holy, Holy, Holy – (Highlands Worship)
- Oceans – (Hillsong)
