The Posture of Christmas
December 2/3, 2017
About midnight, they were praying and singing hymns to God… (Acts 16:25)
When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. (Matthew 26:30)
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:13-14)
The universe is not just designed for efficiency; it’s designed for wonder.
Authentic worship restores us to our sanity.
Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. (Psalm 34:3)
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? …who laid its cornerstone while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?” (Job 38:4-7)
When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. (Matthew 2:10 NIV)
…they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. (Matthew 2:10 KJV)
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. (Matthew 2:11)
My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he [God] has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me… (Luke 1:46-49)
…fell on their faces to the ground. (Judges 13:20)
…David danced before the Lord with all his might. (2 Samuel 6:14)
Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. (Psalm 47:1)
…Three times a day [Daniel] got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God… (Daniel 6:10)
Let his faithful people rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds. (Psalm 149:5)
1. I will worship God with a humble heart.
2. I will worship God with a willing spirit.
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. (Hebrews 13:15-16)
3. I will worship God in eager hope.
I saw a huge crowd, too huge to count. Everyone was there – all nations and tribes, all races and languages. And they were standing, dressed in white robes and waving palm branches, standing before the Throne and the Lamb and heartily singing: Salvation to our God on his Throne! Salvation to the Lamb [who was slain]! (Revelation 7:9-10 MSG)
