Our Journey Business Directory is Here!
February 8, 2018
The New Journey Business Directory is Here! The New Journey Business Directory Is Here! Remember the old Steve Martin movie where he runs around and yells, “The new phone book is here! The new phone book is here!” (And yes, I’m aware that anyone 30 and under reading this is going, “Who is Steve Martin and what’s a phone book?”)
That’s kind of how I felt on Wednesday when Pastor Roddy Conner brought me the fresh-out-of-the-box new Journey Christian Business Directory.
Over 200 business owners from our church family have some form of listing or ad in this very attractive and well-done directory. Of course, you can access the same information online by clicking here. But, to me, there is a kind of an “old-school cool” when you hold an actual directory in your hand.
Show up this weekend at either Journey campus. One per family will be distributed at the Connection Center at both campuses.
Just to be clear: if there is one person in your household, you get one directory. If there are six people in your household, you still get one directory.
I pray for every Journey church member’s business to prosper and bless our community. Most of the people listed in the directory are small business owners or independent representatives in their respective fields. Nobody works harder than people who own their own business, whether it’s a restaurant, a repair shop, or something tech related. Often the margin between breaking even and making a profit is slim.
One of the ways we can bless these folks who are at the core of our economy, not to mention of our church, is to patronize them when we have need of their services. I’ve run across many people over my eight years at Journey who wanted to do just that — they just didn’t know who these folks were. Well, that’s about to change, and it’s another good reason to be at a Journey this weekend.
Many people ask about the status of the proposed park that was planned to be built by Orange County Parks and Recreation on the southeast corner of the Journey Apopka campus. After a laborious three-year process of going back and forth with representatives with OCPR, we have concluded that it is best for Journey to withdraw from this project.
There are many reasons for this decision, but the bottom-line is that what was first proposed to be built and what was finally presented to be constructed were very different things, and fell far short of our expectations.
It’s disappointing to invest so much time into something that will not materialize, and we owe a special thanks to Pastor Roddy who spent many hours on this project always looking out for Journey’s best interest. His wise counsel and diligent oversight were invaluable and ultimately helped us make the best decision for Journey’s future.
We’re not sure right now what will happen to that particular part of our Apopka campus, but we are confident that the right opportunity will eventually be obvious. Thanks for your interest and support of these ideas to maximize the resources that God has blessed us with. As new ideas emerge, I will make sure you are informed.
The Growth Spurt series concludes this weekend, and I am confident this final message will speak to many. Every person who believes in God will face some unexpected, didn’t-see that-coming, didn’t-sign-up-for-this circumstances that can drive us further from God or draw us closer to Him. This weekend, we will learn that not only does God use painful and confusing circumstances to grow our faith, sometimes He creates them, for our good and for His glory. This would be a great message to invite a friend who needs some help-seeking God first when we experience life’s worst.
